Hi! My name is Rebecca “Beccy” Usher, and this is my WordPress portfolio.
As a young artist, I’ve always been inspired by art seen in Games. I’ve always enjoyed spending my time sketching traditionally or digitally to help develop my work and skillset.
Inspiration
My life has been moulded by video games – from playing Guild Wars, a multiplayer role-playing game as a Ranger with a giant pet lizard to being a gun-wielding witch in Bayonetta.
One of the first characters who I had a connection with was Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation; The game showed a strong female protagonist who was able to hold her own in the game without falling into the trope of being a damsel in distress, dual pistols in hand and donned in combat boots, shorts and a tank top.
Aspirations
I aim to work with and represent the traditionally underrepresented in the Gaming Industry – to represent a multitude of people’s identities, body types, sexualities, lives.
I want to create characters to allow someone to emotionally connect with the characters and feel represented – so they can enjoy the game as if it was their first playthrough, regardless of how many times they may have played it.
There are a lot of things for you to see, and you have to break out of your comfort zone in order to find the path that you are looking for.
